At St. Michael's, we recognise that all pupils are entitled to a quality of provision which will enable them to achieve their potential regardless of their specific need or personal circumstances. As we believe are all unique in terms of our characteristics, interests, abilities, motivation and learning needs. St Michael's has a learning support programme and the aim of that is to support and enable pupils to fulfil their potential.
Our school recognises there are particular groups of pupils whose circumstances may require additional consideration by those who work with them to support their special educational need or disability. We work with parents and other professionals including health visitors, school nurse, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists to ensure that we fully understand a child’s needs and make the best provision for them.
There are now four broad areas of SEND, in the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Code of Practice they are:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
- Sensory and/or Physical Difficulties
