Welcome to Year 5!
Mr Gray and Mrs Bennett take good care of us in Year Five. We also have Miss Donkin on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons.
Year 5 is a really important year as it sets in motion the transition process from junior school to secondary. This year, we are aiming to provide our children with the skills they need to be confident, independent and successful learners. We achieve this through teaching a well rounded topic based curriculum. Through 'linked learning' experiences, the children develop key skills across both core and foundation subjects.
Our current Learning Challenge is:
Does the punishment always fit the crime? An exploration of crime and punishment throughout the ages. Please see our latest curriculum newsletter below for further information
In Year 5, we are developing a new approach to homework! We will be continuing to issue Maths and English tasks weekly but we will be supplementing these with a new HOMEWORK MENU. This homework is not compulsory but it gives children the opportunity to work creatively and sometimes collaboratively in order to enhance their learning. All completed homework tasks will be rewarded with raffle tickets. At the end of the term, we will draw a winning ticket at random as well as rewarding the person(s) who have earned the most tickets.
World Book Day!
We all dressed up as a character from our favourite book. Can you guess who we are?
In class today, we have been learning about 'ostinato' rhythms in Music. As well as using the characters from Harry Potter to create a class rhythm, we worked in small groups to create our own ostinato compositions! We are working towards creating a 'crime and punishment' themed whole class composition. Check out the videos below!
